Ulrike Korf

Out of the blue, I started remembering Ulrike tonight and thinking how much I missed her. We were roommates and friends in Seattle in the 1990s when she was doing her post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Washington, and stayed caring friends until her passing.

She had one of the driest senses of humor I will ever know, and she made me laugh a lot! We took many hikes together in Washington's Olympic Peninsula, watched movies, and even played jokes on each other.

I was shocked 5 years ago to hear of her illness and am still shocked she's no longer here. Most critically, she sent me pictures of Lennard, of whom she was incredibly proud, and I also heard great news of Peter and of her amazing professional accomplishements.

I"m so very sorry I didn't get to see her in her last year, my condolences are for her family, still. I"m sorry to read of her mom's recent passing.

Ulrike will always be in my heart as well, as far away from Haltern as in California,
